Mob set suspected robber ablaze for attempting to steal jewelry on Xmas eve

A notorious armed robber was on Christmas eve, December 24 set ablaze along Okere-Ugborikoko road by Bright Hope junction, Delta State for attempting to steal jewelry and other personal effects from an unidentified lady at bout 11:30pm  An eyewitness according to Fresh Angle said the suspect identified simply as Great Kali No Return accosted the unidentified lady at Bright Hope junction with a dagger and knife in company of his gang, threatening that if the lady fails to comply, he would stab her to death.

While they were carrying out the operation, members of Okere-Urhobo Vigilante who were on routine patrol ran into them.

 The witness added that the unidentified lady damned the threat and gripped Great Kali No Return on the shirt, shouting ole oo, ole ooo, oleooo.

 On hearing the lady’s yelling, the Okere –Urhobo Vigilante started shooting sporadically into the air before hitting the leg of the suspect.  According to the witness, male residents of the area insisted that the suspect must be set ablaze and he was immediately surrounded with used car tyres, bathed with fuel and set ablaze, while members of his gang scampered for safety.

 It gathered that at about 8pm of the same evening, the suspect and his gang dispossessed a lady of her laptop and other personal effects along Okere-Ugborikoko road by Okolobe street junction.

 It was learnt that before the suspect met his waterloo, members of his gang robbed residents of Okere-Ugborikoko road of their belongings the same day.

 As at the time of filing this report, no other member of his gang has been apprehended by the Okere-Urhobo Vigilante.

 A member of the vigilante who spoke  on condition of anonymity said the suspect has been on their watch list following his notorious activities in the area, even as he vowed that other members of the gang will be tracked down.

 In another development, fire has gutted shops at Giwamu junction off Okere-Ugborikoko road, leaving properties worth hundreds of thousands destroyed.

 According to an eyewitness, the incident which started at about 8:30pm on Christmas Eve was caused by a trigger from premium motor spirit (fuel) by an unidentified man who sells the product in one of the shops along the road.

 According to the witness, the undisclosed man who deals on fuel (black market) was turning the product in a gallon when some group of boys suspected to be criminals threw firecracker to his direction and in the process, about 8 shops which were situated along the road were almost consumed by the fire.

 Quick attempts were made by residents of the area and traders to stop the fire from spreading to a nearby building.

 It was further gathered that the fire had already been put off before men of Delta State Fire Service came to the scene.

 Although no life was lost, properties worth hundreds of thousands were destroyed and stolen by area boys.
